International Competition for "Meeting of Cultures" cultural centre in Lublin

The joint project by Gray International and Dedeco architects won second prize in an international architectural competition for the “Theatre under Construction” ("Meeting of Cultures" cultural centre) and the accompanying Theatre Square in Lublin.

Main features of the architectural concept for the "Meeting of Cultures" cultural centre in Lublin

Without interfering with the basic structure of the building or adding more floorage, we have created an open public space to allow free, uninhibited passage of people and open the centre for interaction between artists and their audiences.
This effect is enhanced by a feeling of transparency with sunlight reaching previously hidden places, and the use of various materials that react to the play of light and change between night and day, thus creating an additional stage for the ongoing spectacle of lights and colours.

In our design, the Meeting of Cultures Centre breaks loose of its previous negative symbolics and begins to seek its own identity within the city landscape. The soon to be constructed buildings of the neighbouring Congress Centre and the Marshal’s Office, interconnected with common public spaces, break away from the sin of fragmentary thinking and pose an opportunity to create a new quality on the cultural map of Lublin – a comprehensive design complete in terms of functionality, architecture and urban layout.
